Racing.....Resting.....Training (7th, April 2010)
Its been over a month now since the cyclocross season finished. For me it felt like a long time coming and every race in February didn’t seem to come quick enough. The last race of the season was the indoor cyclocross in Hasselt, it was great fun and I really enjoyed it ,it was my first time racing indoors and the course had pretty much every part of a cyclocross you could ever wish to ride on, sand, up hill, downhill, twisty sections, jumps, run ups, and logs to jump over, it was a great way to finish off the season but by the end of the night I was in a complete box and couldn’t wait to go back to England for a rest.

I have mixed feelings about the season, for me it started badly and ended badly and the middle bit went ok J .
Having Starting off with a broken collarbone…. Something which I hadn’t planned, I had to rush the recovery and was playing catch up. When I eventually started in November a lot of the other girls were already well into there season. Through Christmas time I felt like I was getting better and better and picked up some good results. Next was meant to be the cyclocross nationals when first planned I was in good shape, when they got cancelled I was pretty gutted and had to change my training to peak for the worlds instead, I carried on training hard and even though my end result at the worlds wasn’t great (19th ) I was pretty happy with the race itself because I had been battling for a top 15 which I lost from a fall on the last lap. After the worlds I took my usual dip after a big competition and managed somehow to get 2nd, I really wanted to win the nationals but I excepted that 2nd was going to be the best I could get with the way I was feeling, every race after that I was really hanging on and at the end of the season I was shattered and couldn’t wait for my rest.
I didn’t go on a holiday this year, I opted to go back to my home in Derby for 3 weeks where I could see my friends and family, I hadn’t been home for that long for a while and it was so nice to just go home and relax there. I did miss the sunshine of going on holiday but I will probably go away somewhere nice and hot on a beach holiday in my mid season break so not all is lost!
Ive been back in Belgium for a couple of weeks now, and im back into being a full time cyclist im building up my training nicely and will go on a training camp at the end of April with my cyclocross team AVB and Fidea for some warm weather on the bike.
I wont be doing as much racing this summer as last year and I wont be wanting to go the the road world championships this year either because I want my preparation to be right for the cyclocross season. My season on the road will start around the end of May beginning of June, and I will do a bit of MTB too so im really looking forward to that.
My calendar will be up on here soon of what im up to next.
Thank you for everyone’s support. And a quick mention to Danielle and Eric from the Century cafe in Aarschot for there support, food and coffee over the last few months, if your ever in Aarschot in Belgium check there café out, the best food and coffee in town ;-) http://www.centurydue.be/
